Nestled high in the Ozark Mountains, Beaver Lake is located in northwest Arkansas, the birthplace of the White River. With some 487 miles of natural shoreline, Beaver Lake offers the best in recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. The lake is a nature lover's delight during all seasons. Towering limestone bluffs, natural caves, and a wide variety of trees, flowering shrubs, and wildlife afford photographers and nature lovers many hours of enjoyment throughout the year. For the "Birder" grand opportunities exist for viewing migratory waterfowl in season as well as year round inhabitants such as the Bald Eagle. Eagles can be seen throughout the year but fall, winter, and early spring provide the best viewing opportunities. Many sports and activties await the visitor. Beaver Lake, with more than 28,000 surface acres provides year-round fishing pleasure for adventurous anglers, who can try their luck at catching largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bream, white bass, blue channel catfish, and the hybrid bass and striped bass for which Beaver Lake is famous. Spear fishing at Beaver Lake is a very popular sport among divers. When spear fishing, you are limited to one-half the game fish daily limit or the lesser number nearest one-half when the limit is an odd number. You also must abide by length and slot limits. Each year, millions of fingerling game fish from the Blackburn Creek Nursery Pond are released into the clear, blue waters of Beaver Lake by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. The first on-site rearing pond in this area, the Blackburn Creek Pond is the workplace for fishery biologists and other specialists in the field, who work hard to keep Beaver Lake in the forefront of fish production. |
